Applying deformable templates for cell image segmentation

چکیده
This paper presents an automatic method, based on the deformable template approach, for cell image segmentation under severe noise conditions. We de"ne a new methodology, dividing the process into three parts: (1) obtain evidence from the image about the location of the cells; (2) use this evidence to calculate an elliptical approximation of these locations; (3) re"ne cell boundaries using locally deforming models. We have designed a new algorithm to locate cells and propose an energy function to be used together with a stochastic deformable template model. Experimental results show that this approach for segmenting cell images is both fast and robust, and that this methodology may be used for automatic classi"cation as part of a computer-aided medical decision making technique. A Hybrid 3D Colon Segmentation Method Using Modified Geometric Deformable Models
Introduction: Nowadays virtual colonoscopy has become a reliable and efficient method of detecting primary stages of colon cancer such as polyp detection. One of the most important and crucial stages of virtual colonoscopy is colon segmentation because an incorrect segmentation may lead to a misdiagnosis. Materials and Methods: In this work, a hybrid method based on Geometric Deformable Models...
متن کاملMedical Image Segmentation and Localization using Deformable Templates
This paper presents deformable templates as a tool for segmentation and localization of biological structures in medical images. Structures are represented by a prototype template, combined with a parametric warp mapping used to deform the original shape. The localization procedure is achieved using a multi-stage, multi-resolution algorithm designed to reduce computational complexity and time. ...
متن کاملOn Automated Tongue Image Segmentation in Chinese Medicine
Automated tongue image segmentation in Chinese medicine is difficult due to two special factors: (1) There are a lot of pathological details on the surface of tongue, which have a large influence on edge extraction; (2) The shapes of tongue bodies captured from various diseases or persons are quite different, so they are impossible to be properly described by a predefined deformable template. T...
متن کاملOn merging hidden Markov models with deformable templates
Hidden Markov modeling has proven extremely useful for statistical analysis of speech signals. There are, however, inherent problems in two dimensional extensions to HMM's, one of which is the exponential complexity associated with fully 2-D HMM's. In this paper, we propose a new 2-D HMM-like structure obtained by embedding states within regions of a deformable template structure. With this sta...
متن کاملGeometrically Deformable Templates for Shape-Based Segmentation and Tracking in Cardiac MR Images
We present a new approach to shape-based segmentation and tracking of multiple, deformable anatomical structures in cardiac MR images. We propose to use an energy-minimizing geometrically deformable template (GDT) which can deform into similar shapes under the in uence of image forces. The degree of deformation of the template from its equilibrium shape is measured by a penalty function associa...
